㉙2017年8月22日- アイルランド旅行 - アスローン / Ireland Trip - Athlone, 22nd of August, 2017

この日、私達は、宿泊していたB&B: Seabreeze Renvyle B&Bを発ち、ゴールウェイ市とアスローン市に
立ち寄り、ダブリン郊外 (South Dublin) のルカン / Lucan 村まで向かいました。

Across Ireland

We left Seabreeze Renvyle B&B, popped into Galway and Athlone
on our way to Lucan village on the edge of Dublin.

1) アスローン/ Athlone

アスローンは、レンスター地方のウェストミーズ州にある都市です。

アイルランド島のほぼ真ん中にあります。

Athlone is a city which is part of County Westmeath in Leinster.

It is almost the centre of the island of Ireland.

アスローン

アスローンは、リー湖(Lough Ree)の南岸近くにあり、シャノン川沿いの町。

シャノン川はアイルランドで最長の川で、川の名前は、

ケルトの女神、シオンナに由来します。

Athlone

Athlone is along the River Shannon near the southern shore of Lough Ree.
The River is the longest river in Ireland
and is named after Sionna, a Celtic goddess.

私達は12年前にアスローンに一泊したことがあります。

Rが言うにはこのビルの2Fに私達が泊まったB&Bがあったと言いますが、

私はあまり覚えていません。

We stayed one night at Athlone 12 years ago.

R said that here was a B & B where we stayed, on the 2nd floor of this building,

although I do not remember much.

ここは覚えてます！

タイ料理レストランです。

食に問題を抱えるRがとても喜んで料理を食べられたところです。

今も営業されていて、嬉しい！

I remember here!

It is a Thai restaurant.

R has problems with food and he was very happy to eat their dishes.

They still manage today, I'm pleased!

2) カフェ / Cafe

アスローンに寄った一番の目的は、カフェで一休みすることでした。

The primary purpose of visiting Athlone was to take a rest at a cafe.

ネットで調べて、良さそうと判断したカフェがここでした。

悪くはないけれど、期待してしまったので、ちょっとがっかり...

I selected this cafe by Internet researching.

It was not bad, but we expected too much, so we were a bit disappointed ...

3) アスローン城 / Athlone Castle

アスローン城は ⓘ の位置
ⓘ がお城の中にあります。

私達が到着した時には、お城も案内所も閉まっていたので、

周囲を回っただけでした。

ⓘ is the Castle.

When we arrived, both the castle and the information centre were closed,

so we just walked around.

アスローン城は、アスローンの地理的にも歴史的中心。

この石の城は、1210年に建てられ、

ジョン王(アイルランド卿 / 1167 -1216 / 在位1199 -1216)

のためにアイルランドの司法官、ノリッジのジョン・ド・グレイ司教 (?- 1214)

によって建設されました。

Athlone Castle is the geographical and historical centre of Athlone.

This stone castle was built for

King John (Lordship of Ireland / 1167 -1216 / reign 1199 -1216)

by his Irish Justiciar, John de Gray (?- 1214), Bishop of Norwich in 1210.

"The Normans had a profound effect on Irish culture and history after their invasion at Bannow Bay in 1169.

Initially, the Normans maintained a distinct culture and ethnicity.

Yet, with time, they came to be subsumed into Irish culture to the point that it has been said that they became "more Irish than the Irish themselves".
