❹北陸旅行- 日本海 / Hokuriku Trip - Sea of Japan, 21st of January, 2015

←日本海に面した海岸を外浦（そとうら）、富山湾に面した海岸を内浦（うちうら)→

と呼びます。

They call the western coast Sotoura, the east coast Uchiura. ("The outside" and "inside" coasts)

御陣太鼓(ゴジンダイコ)：★
週末の能登空港では、御陣太鼓で観光客を迎えるそうです。
私達は平日でしたので、見られませんでした。

Gojindaiko: Gojin Drum
I heard that tourists are welcomed by a drum performance 
in Noto airport at weekends.
We arrived there on a weekday, so we haven't seen it.

御陣太鼓の由来：★
1576年、上杉謙信(1530-1578)が能登平定を試みた際、
現在の珠洲市三崎町に上陸しました。
現地ではその兵数、武力ともにとても及びませんでしたが、苦肉の索として
木の皮で仮面を作り、海藻を頭から垂らして怪物を装い
太鼓を打ち鳴らしながら夜襲をかけました。
上杉勢は撤退しました。

The History of the Drum
When Uesugi Kenshin(1530-1578)  tried to conquer Noto in 1576, 
his army arrived on a beach which is now called Misaki town in Suzu city.
The army was much stronger than the locals, so as a last resort the locals pretended to be monsters with wooden skin masks and seaweed hair, 
they were beating drums and attacked at night.
The Uesugi army were routed.

Japanese Wikipedia has this, so I was surprised.
