聖マーチン教会 / St. Martin's Church

宿泊中のB＆Bからカンタベリーの中心部を横切り、聖マーチン教会に向かいました。

聖マーチン教会は世界遺産に指定されています(1988~)。

教区会教会として現在も使用されている、イングランド最古の教会です。

We walked to St. Martin's Church from our B&B across Canterbury city centre. 

The church is a World Heritage Site (1988~). 

It is the oldest church as a parish church in England.

周辺は静かで、教会そのものもひっそりと
佇んでいるという印象でした。
My impression ; there was peaceful around the church and
it seems to stand in obscurity. 

ゲートの鍵
The Gate's Lock

ドアが閉じていて、中には入れません。
The doors were closed, so we could not go in.

ケルト十字があるところから、
古い教会であることが伺われます。
There are Celtic Crosses,
so my feeling is that the church is old.

これは地面に埋め込まれています。
'バーサ(ベルタ)王妃の道'/ 'QUEEN BERTHA'S WALK'と
記されています。
バーサ(539 ~ 約612)は、
６世紀にケント王妃（Bertha of Kent）でした。
彼女はもとはフランク族の王女で、結婚のためケントに来ました。
そのとき彼女は、既にキリスト教徒でした。
夫のケント王エゼベルト(560 ~ 616)の許しを得て
ここを彼女の礼拝堂として使用したと考えられています。
エゼベルトは最初にキリスト教に帰依した
アングロサクソンの王です。

世界遺産の明記もあるので、これが作られたのは、
比較的最近、少なくとも登録後、1988年以降と思われます。

This is set in the ground.
It shows 'QUEEN BERTHA'S WALK'.
She (536 ~ c.612) was Bertha of Kent in the 6th century.
She was a Frankish princess, and when she married 
Æthelberht (560 ~ 616) who was King of Kent, 
she was already Christian.
The King let her use here as her chapel.
He was the first Anglo-Saxon King to believe in Christianity.

This shows 'WORLD HERITAGE SITE', too so,
I think it was made relatively recently,
 at least after registration of the site; 1988.

上の矢印は、裏門に続く、この道をさしています。
でも、私にはこの道が何を意味しているのか、
何が特別なのか、わかりません。
The arrow points this way to a back gate.
However, I do not understand what this way means,
and also how it is special.

[追記 / Postscript] 
聖マーチン教会の後で聖オーガスティン修道院に行き、そこのミニ博物館？の中に下の写真の２点を見つけました。

I found below in St. Augustine's mini-Museum (?), with some new information for me, for example, the church's open day and the roundel's meaning. 

聖マーチン教会のオープンデイは、

火曜日、木曜日、土曜日。

10月１日〜3月31日: 11:00am 〜 3:00pm

4月1日〜9月30日: 11:00am 〜 4:00pm

というのを知りました。

また、円形標識の'QUEEN BERTHA'S WALK'は、世界遺産である、

カンタベリー大聖堂と

聖オーガスティンと

聖マーティン教会を

結ぶ道をさしていることもわかりました。

それを知ったあとで、よくよく写真を見ると３つの名前が認識できました...
