1) アントワープへ / To Antwerp
日本の美大の同級生、はっこちゃんが留学した街で、どんなところか見てみたいな〜と思いました。
リサーチ不足が甚だしかったのですが、はっこちゃんにいろいろ教えてもらい、なんとか実現することができました。
はっこちゃん、どうもありがとうございました。
はっこちゃんはすでに帰国し、今年4月に、"het
Labo atrium"というギャラリーを東京新宿ではじめました。

To Antwerp
I
wanted to see Antwerp, what kind of place it is, where my Japanese art
university friend, Hakko had studied.
The
research shortage was serious, but Hakko told me various things
about Antwerp and somehow we were able to make the trip.
Hakko,
thank you very much.
Hakko
has already returned home, and in April this year, she started a
gallery called "het Labo atrium" in Shinjuku, Tokyo.

初めてのユーロスター
ユーロスターの始発駅、ロンドンのセント・パンクラス駅
から乗車し、終点ベルギー 、ブリュッセル南駅で降車しました。所要時間1時間51分。
このルートは、1994年にユーロスターで最初に開通されました。
ユーロスターはこのルートの他にフランスへ向かうものもあります。
Our First
Eurostar Trip
We
got on at Eurostar's terminal, St.
Pancras Station in London,
and
got off at the last stop, Brussels-South Station in Belgium.
Duration:
one hour and 51 minutes.
This
route was first opened by Eurostar in 1994.
Eurostar
has other routes which head to France.

セント・パンクラス駅で出国検査、セキリュティ検査を受けますから、私達は出発時間の1時間半前に到着しました。
As we would have departure inspection and security check at St. Pancras Station, we arrived one and a half hours before our departure time.

窓からの景色
ユーロトンネルを抜けた後に撮影したので、 ここはフランスかベルギーです。
フランス、カレー市を通過したときは、「ここがカレー！」と、ちょっと感動！

I photographed
them after the Euro Tunnel,
so here we were in France or Belgium.
When
we went through Calais, "Here is Calais!" I was excited!

ブリュッセル南駅
ブリュッセル南駅の時刻表は、数カ国後が順に表示され、英語がなかなか出てきませんでした。
結局は、Rがユーロスターの案内係の女性(赤いユニホーム着用)にアントワープ行きの電車を尋ね、ホームや出発時間を教わり、その電車に乗りました。
Brussels-South Railway Station
Normally several languages, are used in continental Europe and I really felt I was in continental Europe from this problem.
In the end, R asked a woman (wearing a red uniform) about which train to get to Antwerp.
The Eurostar's guide staff taught us our platform number and departure time, and we followed her answers.
The timetable of Brussels South Station showed information about departures in a few different languages one by one, and English hardly appeared.
普通電車に乗ってしまった！
We got a local train!

普通電車
私のリサーチでは、40分で到着とあったのに、すごく遅い！
おかしい？
おかしい？
途中でチケットの検閲にきたスタッフに聞いたら、この電車は1時間半かかる、普通電車！でした。
ユロスターのチケットは、ベルギー内で、どんな電車にも(急行含)、どこへでもに乗ることができるものだったのに、なぜあのユーロスターのスタッフが、この電車を示したのか理解に苦しみます。
高速のユーロの意味がこれでなくなった！
In my research, the
train should take 40 minutes to Antwerp from Brussels, although our train was very slow!
Something was wrong!
Something was wrong!
When
asking the staff who came to check tickets on the way, he told us, this train
takes one and a half hours, a local train!
Eurostar tickets to Belgium include travel to by any train to any station in Belgium, yet that staff showed us this train, we could not understand why.
The main advantage of fast Euro was gone!
2) アパートメント / Apartment
ユーロスタッフのおかげで、アントワープに予定よりずいぶん遅く到着。
そのうえ、Rの携帯電話がベルギーで初日から2,3日間使用できませんでした。
旅行前に、彼はベルギーでも使用できるように電話会社と契約していたのですがそれが実現されませでした。
アパートメントの場所はすでに知っていましたが、部屋番号は現地入りした後に教えてもらうはずでしたが、Rの携帯が使用できないので、連絡がつきませんでした。
私達はアパートメントの前で立ち尽くしました。
Rは、グーグルマップもストリートレヴューも見ていなかったので、私が示すビルに疑いを持っていました。
さて、どうしたものか....? 全部の部屋のボタンを押して確かめようか...と私が思案していると、Rは隣のビルの住人の男性と話していました。
私はスーツケースを引きずりながら、走り寄って、その男性に尋ねました。
「私達は英国からきた旅行者でアパートメントに泊まります。
そのアパートメントは、あちらに間違いはないと思います。
でも、私達は部屋番号がわからず、今、彼(R)の携帯が使用できず、オーナーと連絡がつきません。
もしできましたら、あなたの携帯で、オーナーに連絡をしていただけませんか？」
「いいですよ」
と快く承諾してくださいましたので、私は
「オーナーはセバスチャンと言います。電話番号はこれです」
と言って、Rの携帯に入っているセバスチャンの番号を見せました。
セバスチャン / Sebastienと連絡がつき、無事、部屋へ到着することができました。
親切な男性のおかげです。

| アントワープで滞在したアパートメント Apartment stay in Antwerp 
ダイニングテーブルはありますが、
私達は飲食はキッチン・カウンターでしました。
There
is a dining table,
but
we were eating and drinking at the kitchen counter.

Apartment
We
arrived in Antwerp much later than our plan, because of that
Eurostar's Staff.
Moreover, R's
mobile phone could not be used for a couple of days in
Belgium.
Before
the trip, he had a new contract with a telephone company so that he could
use it, even in Belgium, but that did not happen straight away.
We
did not stay in a hotel, but would stay in an apartment : "Cozy, light & centrally located ap." : ★ for a week.
I
already knew the location of the apartment, but the room number was
supposed to be given to us after arriving in Antwerp, but we could not
contact the owner because R's phone did not work.
We
stood in front of the apartment.
R did
not watch Google's map and street view review about the apartment, so
he was suspicious of the building which I was showing him.
Well,
what do I do....?... while I was thinking to push the buttons of all
the rooms, R was talking to a man, a resident of the next building.
I
dragged our suitcase, ran to the man and asked him.
"We
are travellers from the UK and stay at an apartment, I am sure the
apartment is there, but we do not know the room number, now he (R)
's mobile phone can not be used. If you don't mind, could you call our
owner by your phone? "
"OK"
He readily
agreed to my asking.
"The
owner's name is Sebastian. The phone number is this."
I
showed the number of Sebastien that was in R's
phone.
We
got in touch with Sebastien, I was able to arrive at the room
safely.

| 広いキッチンで嬉しい! ヘルシンキの部屋のキッチンはキッチンとも言えない状態で、 料理する気がおきませんでしたが、ここでは結構しました。 The kitchen is wide, so I was glad! The kitchen in Helsinki's room was not a proper kitchen and I did not have a feeling for cooking, but here I did. |

| 滞在中、ずいぶんと歩きましたが、この部屋でリラックスでき、 疲労はたまりませんでした。 Though we walked a lot during our staying, we could relax in this room and our tiredness did not increase. |

冷たい印象にならないようにたくさんのグリーンがあり、
照明も趣向をこらしてありました。
There
are plenty of greens so that the room would not give a cold impression,
and
also there are elaborate lighting ideas.

洗剤を持参したけれど、ここにはすでに用意されていました。

We had brought detergents, though here already had some prepared.

自分たちで洗濯ができるので衣類が少なくてすみました。
私達はここに一週間滞在でしたが、小さなスーツケースとRの通常サイズのリュック・サックのみで過ごすことができました。
Since
we can do washing ourselves, we took fewer clothes.
We
stayed here for a week, though we were able to come with a
small suitcase and R's normal-size rucksack.
バスルーム
そう、唯一残念なのはバスタブが小さかったことです。ですが、多くの場合、シャワーのみです。 ここはトイレも別です。 なので、ここは他と比べると私達には合っていました。 Bathroom
Oh! Yes, the only disappointment is that the bathtub was small.
However, this place was suitable for us compared with others,
because, in many places there is only a shower. Another advantage is that here, the toilet is separate. |
オーナー、セバスチャンが
「ここに置いてあるものは、なんでも好きに使っていいです」
と言ってくれました。
キッチンには、塩胡椒、オイル、各種スパイスがあり、寿司用の海苔やインスタントのすし飯パックまであったのには驚きました。
(寿司関係は使いませんでした)
他にもミネラルウォーターやビールなどもあり、利用させてもらいました。
タオル類も十分に揃っていました。
Owner, Sebastian told
us,
"You
can use whatever is here, as you like."
In
the kitchen there were salt and pepper, oil, various spices and I was
surprised that there was even Nori for
Sushi and an instant Sushi rice pack.
(I
did not use things related to Sushi.)
There
are mineral water bottles and some beers and we did use them.
Towels
are also enough there.

翌日(5日)、1本あけました。
部屋にはビールと同じ醸造所のグラスがありました。
The next day (5th), we opened one of them.
There was a glass in the room of the same brewery as our beer.
