ウィンブルドンテニス開幕 - 2013年6月24日/ Wimbledon Tennis Championship Tournament started - 24th of June, 2013

1)名物な行列 / A popular Queue

A: 有名なコート：センターコート、
                              ナンバーワンコート、
                              ナンバーツーコート

ウィンブルドンテニスはシード選手が試合をする
センターコート、
ナンバーワンコート、
ナンバーツーコート
が有名です。

TVなどで放映されるのは主にそれらのコートの試合なので、私などはそのコートしかないように思っていましたが、その他のコート(No.3~19)でも、たくさんの試合が行われます。

三つのコートのチケットを手に入れることは
システム(バラットシステム)上
とても難しく、多くの人は当日入場券を購入し他の試合を見ます。

また入場後にこれらのコートの("Show court" / "ショーコート"と呼ばれる)席のチケットを購入することも可能ですが、数に限りがあります。

Famous courts : Centre Court, 
                           Number One Court, 
                           Number Two Court

In the Wimbledon Tennis Championships, the famous courts are Centre Court, Number One court and Number Two Court where the seeded players play, and television mainly broadcasts matches on these courts. 

So I thought there were only three courts, although there are many other courts (No.3~19) and many other matches. 

It is hard to get the tickets to the famous courts by the ballot system, so many people buy a ticket to grounds. 

Just a few people can buy tickets for the famous courts after entering.

B: 当日入場券とその行列

会場とともに当日入場券
("Ground Only" ticket / グランドオンリーチケット: 
   No.5~19までのコートの試合が見られる )
で、入場できるのは6,000人までで、この券を求めて多くの人が行列を作ります。

それ以降は最初の人たち(6,000人)が会場を去るのを待たなくてはなりません。

(徐々に補充する形で、まるごとの入れ替え制ではありません)


この行列はウィンブルドンテニス名物でもあり、行列のためのパンフレットもあります。

内容的には会場やチケットの説明ですが、タイトルは
"行列"(The guide to queuing) です。

会場近くの公園に列を作り、整理券(Queue Card)とパンフレットが
配布されます。

ここがその公園です。

開催中は少なからぬ人々がテントをはって
早い番号を手に入れようとしています。

この人たちはショーコートのチケットを手に入れられる
可能性が高いでしょう。

This is the park. 

While there is the Championships, 
a few people stay with their tents there. 

Their chances of getting tickets for the show courts are higher.

"Ground Only" ticket and the Queue

When they open, only people who have got a numbered Queue Card can enter and buy a "Ground Only" ticket. 

The number of people is 6,000. 
After 6,000, people have to wait for other people to leave. 

People would like to be in the first 6,000, so they make the queue. 

The queue is popular for the championships and there are pamphlet for the queue. 

The contents are for information, although the title is "The guide to queuing".

The park is close to the tennis courts, people make the queue and are given their own Queue Card and the pamphlet.

C: 6,000の後 / After 6,000

Rの家はこの公園から歩いて10分くらいなので、とてもラッキーなのです。

ところが今年は気をぬいてしまい、午後に家を出たので、6000番までに入れませんでした。

私達の整理券は9,791と9,792、

なんということでしょう！

以前6000番までに入れなかった友人達から、４時間待ち、その間に
ワインを２本あけた話を聞いていたので、私は暗い気持ちになりました。

行列の途中には出店が出ていてホットドッグ、飲み物、アイスクリームなどを売っていました。

私達は持参したビスケットやくだもので、その場をしのぎ、カードのゲームをしている人も見かけました。

人々は行列を楽しむと聞いていましたし、2008年の行列では私達も
ピクニック気分を楽しみました。
('最初の6000番'に入っていました)

ですが楽しめるのは'最初の6000番'までに居る行列の人たちではないかと思います。

After 6,000

It takes about 10 minutes on foot from my boyfriend's house to the park, so we might be lucky. 

Although we were too easy going this year, so we have got there in the afternoon. 

We could not get before 6,000 Queue Cards. 

Our numbers were 9,791 and 9,792... Oh! 

I have heard about my friends's experiences who haven't got in the first 6,000. 

They had waited for their turns for four hours, so they have drunken two bottles of wine in the queue. 

So I felt very dark after getting our numbers. 

The queue area had two shops and the sold hotdogs, drinks, ice cream and so on. 

We could survive with our biscuits and fruit.

I saw people playing cards.

 I had heard that people enjoy being in the queue and when we were in the queue in 2008, we enjoyed the queue. 

However, I think these people are only in the 'first 6,000'.

テニスマッチをして行列の人々の退屈さを
ちょっとまぎらわしていました。

Two boys became the net, four boys played tennis
without rackets.
It helped people in the queue who were so bored.

2)入場 / Entering

A: 入場後 /After entering

私達がようやく入場したとき既に午後４時すぎで、
ぐったりと疲れていました。

午後５時をすぎると入場券のねだんが、20ポンドから14ポンドにさがります。

本当に時間もお金も損したように思います。

救われるのは並んでいる間に雨が降らなかったことです。

入場後にすぐにしたことはビールを飲んだことです。

ウィンブルドンテニスマッチではシャンパンとピムズというお酒で
つくる簡単なカクテル？が飲めます。

BFのRにキャッシュがあまりにないと釘をさされて、ビールを飲みました。

あまりに喉がかわいていたので、ビールで十分満足しました。

これは嘘です。

本当はシャンパンが飲みたかったのです！

(ピムズは自分で作るほうが美味しいと信じています)

After entering

When we entered, it was after 4 pm, we were already tired. 

After 5 pm, the ticket cost becomes down, from 20 pounds to 14 pounds. 

I felt time and money were wasted. 

The only good point was that it did not rain, even a shower.

After entering, I immediately drank a pint of beer. 

There were also champagne and Pimms available, although my boyfriend did not have enough money and I did not have any money, so I have chose beer.

I was very thirsty, so I was satisfied. 

It was not true. 

To tell the truth, I wanted to have a glass of champagne. 

(I believe my Pimms is better than theirs.)

No.5~19のコートでも報道陣は何人かいます。

きっと自分達の国の選手が試合をするのを待っているのでしょう。

There were some press. 

Maybe they would catch their country's players.

主審は女性でした。

他の審判も入場する時はブレザーを着用しています。

この日は暑く殆どの人は脱いでいました。

紺のユニホームのボールボーイとボールガールは

きびきびと動きます。

In this game the umpire was a lady. 

Line court judges wore blazers when they came on to the courts. 

The day was hot, so they took them off.

Ball boys and girls wore dark-blue uniforms and
 they work so briskly.

B: 試合観戦 / Watching the matches

今年は入場があまりにもおそかったので、有名コートのチケット購入はあきらめました。

リラックスした気持ちで見られるミックスダブルスやジュニアの試合を観ました。

疲れすぎてシリアスなシングルの試合を見る気になれなかったのもありますが、どの試合を見ていいのかわからない私達には、
迷っている間に席がなくなって、結局、
空いている席に座わらざるをえなかった
というのが本音です。
(私もRもドンクサイのです。笑)

のろまな私達は、
リサーチは何をするにも必要なのだな〜
と思いました。

なにはともあれ、それぞれの試合は楽しく観ました。

Watching the matches

We entered there too late this year, so we gave up trying to get show court tickets. 

We watched junior and mixed doubles matches which are lighter for us.
We were tired so we did not feel the seriousness of a singles game. 

It might be true that we could not decide which match we would watch for a while, then when we decided on the match, it was too late for getting our seats. 

We are slowly or dull. 

I feel I need research for everything before doing something. 

Anyway we enjoyed the matches we did see.

紺と緑
緑のユニホームの青年達は
選手に傘をさすだけのためにいるようで、
試合中もゆったり気分で観戦しています。

ユニホームの紺と緑の間には、大きな違いがあり、

結構面白いものがありました。

Dark-blue and Green 

Green uniformed boys and girls just held umbrellas 
for players in break times, and were easy going during play. 

It was quite interesting that 
dark-blue uniforms and green uniforms 
were very different.

3)あちらとこちら / Over there and Over here.

ミックスダブルを観戦した席からセンタコートのラウンジが見えました。

そこにはこのマッチの会員やセレブ達が見えます。

こちらが庶民のテニス観戦ならあちらは、雲の上の人たちの観戦。

私は、一生あそこで寛ぐことはないでしょうね。

このコートでの試合中にセンターコートからの主審の声がかなりはっきり聞こえていて(放送されていたのかもしれません)、びっくりしました。

センターコートの外で戦う選手の集中力の高さを感じました。


Over there and Over here.

When I watched a mixed doubles match, I could see people who stood up on a balcony of Centre Court and they had drinks, chatting and rests. 

Our watching tennis was ordinary, there looked like watching tennis from above the clouds. 

 I will never have rest time there.

During our match, we could hear the umpire's voice from Centre Court (it might be broadcast), so I was surprised. 

And also I was impressed by the concentration of players outside Centre Court.

4)おばかちゃん / Idiots.

私達はテニスに詳しいわけではなく、このチャンピオンシップの会場の楽しさを味わいに行きましたのでそれは実現できたように思います。

ですが、今年はいろいろな面でちょっとおばかちゃんでしたね。

やっぱり有名なコートでの試合もちょっとは観たいし、シリアスな試合も観たいです。


Idiots.

We do not know enough about tennis and players, although we went to the Championships, because we would enjoy the atmosphere in there and we did. 

However, we were idiots for a few things. 

I would like to watch matches in the show courts, serious matches as well.

テムズのわまりで(キングストン) / Around Thames in Kingston

1)舟の家/ House Boat

舟の家です。

彼らの存在は私にはほっとさせるのですが、実は彼らは居住権について公機関と戦ってます。公機関(国)は彼らをその場から移動させて交通機関を整備させたいのです（River Thames Boat Projects）。いわゆる立ち退き問題ですね。それを知るとなんとなく彼らがテムズの白鳥と重なって見えて来ます。(優雅に見える白鳥は水の下では必死に足を動かしているでしょう)

This is a house boat. It makes me feel lighter, although they fight seriously with national governments rules. The rules would require them to move. It is possible they face eviction. After I knew this, I feel the boat looks like a Swan on the Thames, because it looks calm but they are paddling hard under the water just stay there.

2)マリーナ / Marina

モダンなマンションはマリーナもついています。豪華ですね〜！

These modern buildings have their own marina. It is gorgeous, isn't it?

3)お店 / Shop

貸しボートやさんかしら？

Is this a boating rental shop?

テムズ川のボート/ Boats on The Thames

1. 観光フェリーが出発するところ。

A ferry is leaving.

2. 小さなボートに家族と思われる３人が乗船。赤ちゃんはお父さん？の膝の上。この赤ちゃんもボート好きになるのかな？

Three people are in a small boat. They look like a family. A baby is in his or her father's lap. Maybe the baby will love boats?

3. きれいなボート。

A beautiful boat.

4. 女性３人のボート。

白鳥がいるのがテムズらしい。

Three ladies in a boat, near a swan. This is how I picture the Thames. .

5. ボートのすぐそばで白鳥が飛翔……？

6. お遊びムードの人が多いテムズのボート乗りの中で、彼女はかなりまじめにトレーニング？

Many people enjoy messing about on the river. This lady looks serious and she was fast.

7. エンジン付きのボートと手こぎボート。女性一人と男性３人。女性のために頑張れる？

A boat with an engine, and a boat with two-man power. The two guys can row for a lady.

8. クラッシックなフェリーを思わせるデザインの遊覧船。そのむこうには現代的なデザインのボート。

A classic pleasure-boat in front of very modern boats.

9. 写真がぼけぼけでわかりにくいかもしれませんが、裕福さを感じる舟です。

This photograph is out of focus, so it is difficult to say something. Although

I felt the boat is expensive.

10. 優雅またはのんびりさを感じるボート達のなかで、これは強さを感じます。

Thames boats are gorgeous or easy going, although this small boat looks strong.

11. 小型の遊覧船が橋の下に向かいます。花であふれるハンギングバスケットも含め、こういう橋は、とってもヨーロッパ！

A small pleasure-boat about to go under the bridge. The bridge has beautiful hanging flower baskets. It is very European for me.

12. ワールドカップ開催中だったせいか、イングランドの旗を掲げている観光船。それともいつも旗はあるのでしょうか？車よりも舟の方が旗がよく似合うと思います。

This boat has two England flags. It might be to show support for England in the World Cup, or they always fly them. I think flags suit boats much more than cars.
